What is "Fee Only Financial Planning," and why is it important?

Charles graduated from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX, with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics.  After having worked with several employee benefits firms consulting on defined benefit and 401(k) plans, he joined Fidelity Investments and worked as a Financial Consultant in the New Haven, CT branch.

After a long career at Fidelity, Charles broadened his horizons and worked at several shoreline branches of NewAlliance Bank as the Financial Advisor.   Most recently, however, Charles served as the Senior Consultant of Advisor Services at Symmetry Partners in Glastonbury, CT.  His role there was to assist advisors across the country with building better, cheaper portfolios for their clients as well as maintaining and building more client-centric practices.

Charles works with families to map out their financial goals and prioritize them in order to maximize their chances of meeting the goals in order of importance.  To that end, he manages their portfolios in a way that seeks to produce the returns that the plan requires with as little risk as possible.  By utilizing low-cost "institutional grade" investment products available only to large institutions and qualified investment advisors as well as tax-managed or tax-advantaged solutions, he seeks to maximize after-tax returns appropriate for the client's risk spectrum.
