Fee-Only & Fiduciary

The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) is the country's leading association of fee-only and fiduciary financial planners.

Dan Johnson is an Akron, OH fee only financial planner specializing in financial planning and investment management  to help clients grow and protect their assets through life's transitions. Forward-Thinking Wealth Management can work through a virtual setup to serve clients across the country.  Dan Johnson is a NAPFA-Registered Financial Advisor and a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional.

Prior to founding Forward-Thinking Wealth Management in 2016, I worked in the financial services industry at Merrill Lynch and a small investment company. My background is a bit diverse, as I spent over a decade doing economic development for cities in Western Michigan. I also spent several years being trained to help families who have loved ones with special needs to create comprehensive plans that go well beyond their finances.

Through my experience, I was motivated to become a Financial Advisor and build my own financial planning practice.

I founded Forward-Thinking Wealth Management under the basis that I wanted to create a virtual practice where I could build strong relationships with my clients, and provide fee-only, flat annual fee, comprehensive, Financial Services. My ultimate goal is to help clients control the fees they pay advisors, the fees of their investment products, and minimize the taxes they pay.

I currently live in Akron, Ohio with my wife and two sons. I am a member of The John Glenn College of Public Affairs Alumni Board at The Ohio State University. I am also a member of the Julie Billiart of St. Sebastian Parish Board and board member at the Village of St. Edwards Nursing Home. During my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family.

Our approach is simple—we focus on your entire financial life where investments are just one part of the whole financial picture.

My role as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ is to look at your entire financial life, including items such as debt, risk mitigation, education, retirement planning, estate planning, taxes, and more. This also means I will work with the rest of your team (CPAs, Attorney's, etc) to manage your complete financial picture.  This might include frequent conversations on your behalf to ensure we coordinate successfully.

TWO OF THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTORS FOR A SUCCESSFUL FINANCIAL PLAN:

  1. A long-term approach to investing

  2. Controlling the taxes and fees you pay

By disclosing all fees and providing low cost investment products, you will have a better chance of earning success over time because you will control your costs. We always take in to account your complete financial picture, including where you are now and where you want to be in the future, not just what is happening in the world at this moment.

This approach allows us to constantly keep the focus on your long-term goals, and the result is a financial plan where investments are just one part of that plan.

FINANCIAL PLANNING MAY INCLUDE:

  • Debt Management
  • Retirement Planning
  • 401k Advice
  • Educational Goals
  • Gifting
  • Tax Management
  • Estate Planning
  • Liability Coverage

Whatever your unique goals, we build a comprehensive financial plan that suits your needs. Through our Flat Annual Fee, we help clients control the fees they pay to advisors, investment products, and taxes. We are dedicated to not only strengthening the financial planning relationship, but also improving the client's retirement picture.
