Fee-Only & Fiduciary

The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) is the country's leading association of fee-only and fiduciary financial planners.

Debra L. Morrison is a Lincoln Park, NJ Fee-Only Financial Planner serving clients in 13 states. Empowered Retirement, Inc. specializes in providing objective financial planning to help clients build, manage, grow, and protect their assets through life's transitions, particularly retirement. Debra L. Morrison is a NAPFA-Registered Financial Advisor and a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Practitioner.

DEBRA L. MORRISON is a Fee-Only Wealth Manager for Empowered Retirement, Inc., who brings 38 years of experience in personal financial planning and asset management.  She received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Messiah College, and earned both her CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation and her Masters of Science in Retirement Planning from the College for Financial Planning, and has helped thousands of clients face and conquer their fears and attain financial security.
A CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and Accredited Estate Planner, Debra consistently logs more than 2 times her required annual Continuing Education Credits, constantly seeking effective investment and planning strategies that enhance her client's net worth while mitigating that four-letter word, risk.  Her attention to detail and ability to translate complex financial arrangements into understandable terms is unparalleled.

However, what really sets Debra apart has nothing to do with her formidable financial skills.  Her clients consistently rave about her caring and personalized service, which they say was sorely lacking from big firms.  For instance, she completed stock option paperwork for her World Trade Center Widower, drove it to his home for his signature, garnering him over $18,000 he didn't even know he could access.  She provided one year's worth of pro bono financial planning and investment service for seven widows, one widower, and one orphan who lost their breadwinner/parent in the 9/11 tragedy and delivered the eulogy at two clients’ funerals.  Debra cares, deeply and truly, about her clients – not just their money, but their well-being, happiness, and fulfillment in life.  She feels our greatest assets are time and health and strategizes to save her clients valuable time so they can focus upon enhancing their health and living life to the fullest.
Armed with decades of experience working with widows & widowers and their money, she has authored 3 books, Ms. Morrison’s Dictionary of Useful Financial Investment Terms, Common Sense Money Guide For Women, and My Husband Died, Now What? A Widow’s Guide to Grief Recovery & Smart Financial Decisions; the latter attaining Amazon's #1 Best Seller Status unwinding emotions from money, cutting to the salient facts, and explaining winning investment strategies, using easy-to-understand everyday analogies.  She is a Certified Heartbreak to Happiness™ Grief Coach, and is a sought after international motivational speaker who, with generous helpings of humor and analogy, motivates audiences of mature women to feel empowered about their finances, regardless of their life circumstances.

Debra’s special personal attributes, coupled with her wealth of experience gained from heading her own firm for 33 years, has given her such credibility that she has been featured on CNN, ABC, MSG’s Metro Money and CNNfn, as well as being quoted in The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Nation’s Business, Ladies Home Journal, Business Week, Family Money, Garden State Woman, Investment News, Dermatology Business Management, Journal of Financial Planning, Money, CNN Money, Financial Advisor, America Online's Moneywise, The Star Ledger and Reader’s Digest.   She is listed in Marquis' Who's Who in Finance & Industry & Who's Who of American Women as well as Nationwide Register's Who's Who in Executives and Business.

Debra was honored as a 2011 Leading Woman Entrepreneur and Business Owner of New Jersey.  In 2008, she was named one of New Jersey's Best 50 Women in Business and honored that same year by the Women's Fund of New Jersey as an Extraordinary Woman in Finance. In 2012, she was named the Grief Coach Academy’s Coach of the Year.

Debra has served on the Development Committee for The Women’s Fund of New Jersey, the Board of Directors for Wayne Chamber Orchestra and the Philharmonic Orchestra of New Jersey.  An Adjunct Professor at Fairleigh Dickenson University she is past President of the Estate Planner Council of Bergen County and past treasurer of the Kirkridge Retreat Center Board of Directors.  She volunteers for Special Olympics and Habitat for Humanity and enjoys skiing, golf, tennis and scuba diving in her spare time.

Empowered Retirement happens when people prepare; generally investing early yet certainly investing smart.

Yet with all the ‘financial noise’ reverberating throughout the internet/TV/radio/print media, HOW can one know who to trust and what strategy to follow?  Steve Forbes once said, “You make more money selling advice than following it. It’s one of the things we count on in the magazine business—along with the short memory of our readers.”

Do we need further proof that the media's agenda isn't aligned with ours as investors, seeking to secure our financial future?

By working with an Independent, Fee-Only Certified Financial Planner™ you avoid being ‘sold’ a commissionable product.  Instead your financial and life goals shape your financial plan,  period.  80+ years of academic research teaches us the 3 key decisions every investor must make with their investments:

  1. How you allocate your portfolio between stocks and short-term bonds,
  2. How you allocate your portfolio between US Stocks and International Stocks,
  3. Your comfort with key risk factors

At Empowered Retirement, Inc., we’re committed to partnering with high net worth individuals and families to design and build a plan to meet your life goals using scientific and academic research, not media hype.  We typically manage portfolios with a minimum of $2,000,000 in investable assets, to both preserve and grow your hard-earned capital through disciplined management, so you can better enjoy your 'retirement'.

Whatever 'retirement' looks like to you, we'll position your investments with an eye to minimizing fees and taxes, so that at a minimum, you'll be assured that your money lasts at least last as long as you do, yet equally important, that you fulfill your dreams.

Whether you are IN 'retirement' or fast approaching; is it looking and feeling empowered, or tired?  If the latter, allow us to infuse some sage advice on how to inject more power into your investment portfolio.
