Douglas Pauley is a NAPFA-Registered Financial Advisor.
NAPFA is the country's leading association of Fee Only Financial Planners.
What is "Fee Only Financial Planning," and why is it important?
Doug Pauley received his Bachelor of Science (Economics) degree from the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point in 1981, having served as one of the four cadet regimental commanders. Commissioned into the United States Army, Doug served as an Airborne Ranger qualified Field Artillery officer.
After earning his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1988, Doug taught courses in personal finance, investments, and economics while serving as an Assistant Professor at West Point from 1988 through 1991. Because of his interest in personal finance, teaching, and helping others, Doug completed an extensive course of study through the College for Financial Planning, earning the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation in 1991. As part of his ongoing education, Doug earned the Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®) designation from the Center for Fiduciary Studies in 2005.
Doug has been quoted in national and regional publications including The Wall Street Journal, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine, Investment Advisor magazine, Investment News, Senior Market Advisor, the Austin Business Journal, and the Austin American-Statesman. In addition, he has contributed chapters to two books and regularly makes presentations to church, civic, and business groups.
In 2003, Doug was selected to help train those studying to become Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) practitioners by teaching the introductory course, "Fundamentals of Financial Planning," and the capstone course, "Strategies and Case Studies" for the University of Texas Financial Planning Certificate Program. In 2006, he was honored with the “Excellence in Teaching” award.
Doug has been honored by Texas Monthly five years in a row, one of the select few advisors that has earned that distinction in Texas.
