What is "Fee Only Financial Planning," and why is it important?
Helen Modly, CFP®, CPWA®, Executive Vice President
Focus Wealth Management, Ltd.
Helen Modly is a principal of Focus Wealth Management, Ltd., a women-owned fee-only firm in Middleburg and Fairfax, Virginia. She has been recognized as one of the top wealth managers by The Washingtonian Magazine, Northern Virginia Magazine and Virginia Living Magazine.
Her passion to create the fee-only, disciplined investment management process employed by Focus evolved from almost 20 years of seeing how the industry packages and pitches investment products. She helped create the Client First-Client Only culture as a reaction to the vastly unlevel playing field that exists for most investors. Her insistence on acting solely in her clients' best interest is a founding principal at Focus.
In 2010 she was selected by the membership of FPANCA chapter as the 2010 Financial Planner of the Year.
Helen speaks regularly to diverse audiences and has presented at both local and national industry venues such as the Financial Planning Association (FPA), the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), and the Virginia Society of CPA’s Professional Development conference.
She is also frequently quoted in consumer publications such as the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Money, Business Week, Washington Business Journal, Washington Post, and Bloomberg as well as frequent mentions in the financial industry media. Helen’s columns on financial planning and practice management issues appear regularly on MorningstarAdvisor.com and Horsesmouth.com.
