Fee-Only & Fiduciary

The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) is the country's leading association of fee-only and fiduciary financial planners.

Karen Keatley is a Charlotte, NC Fee-Only Financial Planner serving Charlotte and all surrounding areas. Keatley Wealth Management, LLC specializes in providing objective financial planning and investment management to help clients build, manage, grow, and protect their assets through life's transitions. Karen Keatley is a NAPFA-Registered Financial Advisor and a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional.

Prior to founding her own firm in 2003, Karen Keatley had extensive experience in investment management. Her career began more than twenty years ago in the Economic Research Department at CSX Transportation. After completing her MBA at Duke University at the Fuqua School of Business, she joined Prudential Insurance Company where she served as Vice President and managed part of a multi-billion dollar portfolio of fixed-income and private equity investments. She made the transition to investment management and financial planning for individuals as a fee-only advisor because she believes in the importance of quality advice that is not influenced by a sales agenda.

Karen is somewhat unique among financial advisors in that she has earned both the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) and CFP® (Certified Financial Planner™) marks of distinction, in addition to an MBA. The depth of her academic study combined with her investment experience enables her to provide exceptional perspective and highly insightful advice for her clients.

Karen has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal , Money Magazine, Kiplinger Personal Finance , MSN.com Money Central, Charlotte Business Journal, and South Park Magazine, among other publications. She has been interviewed on film by local television and is often consulted as a subject matter expert for news reports. Karen also contributed to the book, Just Give Me the Answer$: Expert Advisors Address Your Most Pressing Financial Questions (Dearborn Trade Press, April 2004). In 2014, 2015 and 2016, she was named a Five Star Wealth Manager in The Charlotte Magazine .

Karen serves on the Board of Directors for Women’s Impact Fund in the roles of Treasurer and Finance Committee Chair. Women’s Impact Fund provides over $400,000 of grant funding each year to non-profit organizations in Mecklenburg County and hosts philanthropic education events for its members. An amateur singer, Karen has performed with Oratorio Singers of Charlotte and has served on the Boards of Directors for Oratorio Singers of Charlotte and the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. As an individual investor, you face tremendous challenges. You are constantly bombarded with confusing, often misleading media messages about investments and financial planning. The recent bear market may have left you confused and anxious about how your money should be invested. “Experts” make contradictory predictions about the future of the markets. Financial institutions continuously develop new financial products and spend enormous sums of money to promote them. The title “Financial Advisor” is used by product salespeople who provide very little in the way of actual advice. The quality of the information in financial magazines and television shows is mixed, at best. It has become increasingly difficult to filter out the noise.

We can help.

Keatley Wealth Management, LLC, located in Charlotte, NC, was formed by Karen Keatley MBA, CFA, CFP® to provide superior long-term investment strategies and financial advice to individuals and families.

A Fee-Only firm, Keatley Wealth Management does not sell financial products. We do not receive commissions or third party payments of any kind because they lead to conflicts of interest between advisors and clients. Our fees are completely transparent and there are no hidden agendas.

Our investment approach is not based on speculation. The most successful long-term investment strategy has always been a well-diversified, buy-hold-and-rebalance approach. Market volatility and steep declines have been the bane of unprepared investors. An informed historical perspective helps you avoid the costly mistakes of being too optimistic when stocks are soaring and too pessimistic after a market decline.

We integrate expert financial planning with experienced investment management and take a collaborative approach with our clients to develop investment portfolios appropriate for their unique situations. With a well-conceived plan and a sound investment strategy, you can be prepared to profit from long-term growth opportunities and also to weather short term storms. By taking the appropriate amount of risk for your long term goals and having adequate liquid resources in safe investments, you will be better able to cope with volatility and bear markets.
