Dr. Laura Mattia is Managing Director of Bay Point Wealth Management, a FEE-ONLY wealth management firm, and heads up the Sarasota office where she works with individuals seeking responsible, unbiased and objective financial advice. She is the author of the forthcoming book “Gender On Wall Street: Uncovering Opportunities for Women in Financial Services”, coming out spring 2018 from Palgrave Macmillan. Dr. Mattia is the founder of Women’s Money Empowerment Network™ (WoMEN), a community of women engaged in mastering money to improve their lives. The network provides education to women and mentorship to female financial advisers. She hosts an internet radio show, Women’s Money Empowerment Network with Laura Mattia and was the author of Financially Empowering Women, a monthly finance column which appears on ABC News.com. Dr. Mattia’s workshops, focus on teaching women how to make effective financial decisions and her research explores the financial literacy gender gap and how women approach money.
Dr. Mattia is nationally acclaimed as a women’s advocate and educator within the profession and recognized as a Sarasota-Manatee Biz (941) Women of Influence and a 2015 Sarasota Five Star Wealth Manager, the fifth year in a row. She has also been named one of the Best 50 Women in Business by NJBIZ and received the Women’s Choice Award® for Financial Advisors, a premier recognition award for advisors who provide quality service to their female clients. Her financial expertise is a unique combination of advanced financial degrees and certifications, and over 30 years of financial leadership experience as a CFO/Controller for fortune 500 companies, Wall Street firms, and individuals preparing for retirement, and as a Finance Professor at University of South Florida and Rutgers University.
Dr. Mattia is also the program director of a newly created Personal Financial Planning Program at Muma College of Business, University of South Florida where she has created a degree to train the new breed of competent and ethical financial advisors. She received her Ph.D. in Personal Financial Planning from Texas Tech University, a Masters in Business Administration in Accounting/Finance and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Montclair State University. She is on the board of the Suncoast Chapter of the Financial Planning Association (FPA), a host of the Women’s Knowledge Circle of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and a member of the National Association of Fee-Only advisor (NAPFA).
