What is "Fee Only Financial Planning," and why is it important?

Luke grew up in Somerset, Kentucky, and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1993 with a Bachelor’s degree with honors in Finance. He then attended the Graduate School of the University of Kentucky and completed an MBA with emphasis in Finance and Marketing in 1994.

From 1995 through 1996, he served as a financial planner for Financial Architects, Inc. a financial planning firm in Somerset, Kentucky. At Financial Architects, Inc., he concentrated his practice in the areas of insurance and individual portfolio development.

From 1996 through 2002, Luke worked with D. Scott Neal, Inc. a fee-only financial planning and investment management firm in Lexington, Kentucky. During Luke’s tenure with the firm it grew from $5 million under management to approximately $80 million under management. He served on a three-person investment selection committee and worked extensively in the development financial plans and the management of investment portfolios. In 2001, he earned the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation and was named Vice President and shareholder of the corporation.

Luke joined Foster & Motley, Inc. in 2002 and became a shareholder of the firm in 2006. He serves as a lead planner and is on the mutual fund selection committee.

Luke has been quoted on financial planning matters in the Wall Street Journal, The, BusinessWeek, MSN Money and the Lexington Herald Leader. He is a member of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), the Cincinnati Estate Planning Council and the Northern Kentucky Estate Planning Council.
