What is "Fee Only Financial Planning," and why is it important?
Marnie Aznar founded Aznar Financial Advisors, LLC, a fee-only financial planning firm and a registered investment advisor in the State of New Jersey in 1999.
Before starting Aznar Financial Advisors, LLC, Marnie worked as a financial planner with the Ayco Company, LLP and as an associate with PricewaterhouseCoopers. After working in this capacity, she worked in corporate finance at Booz Allen & Hamilton.
Marnie has a Masters of Business Administration degree, with a major in Finance from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, New Jersey. She earned her undergraduate degree in Hotel Administration with a concentration in Finance from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She completed an eighteen-month course to earn her "Certificate in Financial Planning" and received authorization to use the CFP® marks of distinction in January of 2001.
A NAPFA-Registered Financial Advisor, Marnie has been a member of NAPFA (National Association of Personal Financial Advisors) since 1999. She is also a member of the Personal Financial Planning section of the AICPA (American Institute of CPA's). She has participated in panel discussions at NAPFA "Basic Training" aimed at teaching new planners the intricacies of developing a financial plan. Marnie has been a volunteer for the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program and for the Resource Center for Women in Summit, New Jersey.
Marnie has been quoted in Kiplinger’s Personal Finance Magazine, Ladies’ Home Journal, Investment Advisor Magazine, Smart Money Magazine, and the Daily Record and is a frequent contributor to the Star Ledger.
Marnie has been an adjunct professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University where she taught finance courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. She also teaches a course on the basics of personal finance to a group of high school students in the "Discover Business Teen Camp" program offered annually at Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU). FDU recently launched an online "personal finance certificate program" that is designed to teach high school students the basics of personal finance. The program includes an online two hour lecture that Marnie originally presented to a group of ninth and tenth grade students.
