Fee-Only & Fiduciary

The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) is the country's leading association of fee-only and fiduciary financial planners.

Watershed Wealth Planning is an independent, fee-only financial planning firm serving the Portland, OR area, as well as clients nationwide via virtual planning services. Tyler R. Elliott, JD CFP® is a former attorney, a current member of NAPFA, and a proud fiduciary to his clients. His practice provides comprehensive financial planning to young professionals in their 20's, 30's, and 40's with no product sales or asset minimums.

I am the founder and principal of Watershed Wealth Planning LLC. My practice is focused on households in their 30's and early 40's who have high income but may be struggling to build a positive net-worth, often due to the burden of student debt and rising housing costs. As a financial planner, I am able to pull on my prior experience as a bankruptcy attorney and as a financial advisor to help people avoid common pitfalls and cut out the noise that can complicate important financial decisions.

My clients have goals that are more unique than retirement or college planning such as, "How do we travel internationally every year without compromising our long-term plan?"  As someone who has traveled to 33 countries in my 41 years, I love helping clients answer these types of questions.

When meeting with people for the first time, the question I get more than any other is, "Why did you give up a career as an attorney to become a financial planner?"  The answer is simple: I felt I could have a more positive impact as a planner engaged in preventative medicine rather than as an attorney engaged in emergency care. My prior law practice was focused on bankruptcy and debt negotiation, and I represented far too many households who had enjoyed years of success prior to financial struggle. In fact, a notable percentage still had a six figure income at the time their bankruptcy case was filed. This experience taught me two things. First, high household income alone does not allow for the financial freedom that we all seek. Second, the vast majority of households do not have a true financial plan in place -- they are simply living week-to-week & month-to-month with the hope that things will work out for the best in the long run. I became a financial planner because I was inspired to help young people establish financial freedom and realize their dreams.

We are a fee-only financial planning and wealth management firm that works with young professionals to build security and financial freedom.

True wealth isn't measured by dollars in a bank account but, rather, by the capacity to live life on chosen terms. That begins by figuring out what matters most...to you.

Our focus is on organization & process, transforming complex financial decisions into affordable action steps. No wealth required. No products sold.
