Fee-Only financial planner with locations in Boise, ID, San Rafael, CA, and San Ramon, CA, serving clients locally and across the country

Richard Davey is a Boise, ID fee-only financial advisor* serving clients locally and across the country. Fiduciary Financial Group provides comprehensive financial planning to help professionals, business owners, near retirees, and individuals experiencing life transitions organize, grow and protect their assets through life’s ever-changing journey. As a fee-only, fiduciary, and independent financial advisor, Richard Davey is never paid a commission of any kind, and has a legal obligation to provide unbiased and trustworthy financial advice.
*Richard does not earn any investment or insurance-related commissions. He is an Idaho licensed real estate agent. If Richard represents and/or solicits real estate purchases for which a commission might be earned, he will transparently disclose such conflicts and present agency representation disclosures if/when appropriate.
Richard Davey became a CPA and joined Grant Thornton as a Senior Assurance Associate where he audited nearly all areas of GAAP financial statements for major public and private corporations. During this time, he also took graduate courses in taxation at Golden Gate University in San Francisco.
While accounting and tax offered many rewarding challenges and helped build a solid foundation for understanding how businesses work, reviewing past results wasn’t his lifelong dream. He realized he preferred focusing more on forward looking projects and practices serving families rather than large corporations.
Because of this, he made a career change to investment advising and financial planning starting out at the mid-west brokerage firm – Waddell & Reed. Working for a large national firm was a great place to start, in building a deep knowledge of investment and insurance products, but it didn’t take long for Richard to realize he was missing some key ingredients to be able to provide the most valuable advice: (1) Flexibility that comes from working for a smaller firm, and (2) independence; that is, having no sales incentive to use certain investment products over others. In 2014, Richard officially started building his own practice at a small independent firm in Marin County with only $3MM in assets. Just 8 years later, Fiduciary Financial Group’s assets under care has grown roughly ~150X, which could be attributed to a healthy stream of referrals from happy clients and from positive investment returns.
At Fiduciary Financial Group, we hold ourselves to the highest standard of professional ethics... the fiduciary standard of care. It's a simple concept yet absent in many client/advisor relationships: Only provide advice and recommendations that are in the best interests of the client. Always. No exceptions.
We offer in-depth financial planning and wealth management.
This involves reviewing not only a clients budget and investments, but also their estate plan, beneficiary designations, mortgage and business financing, insurance documents, tax returns, etc. We are completely detached and unincentivized to solicit any particular investment product. Our incentive is simple: grow your money as much as possible within the confines of your tolerance for risk. We focus on liquid & publicly traded investments for the core of our client portfolios. For accredited investors, we will, on occasion, branch out into non-publicly traded offerings for the sake of diversification.
Tax Planning & Advisory
We now exclusively offer tax prep/planning services to new clients who also work with us in an investment management capacity. Our goal here is to provide a high-touch/coordinated service where your tax mitigation strategy and wealth buildnig strategy are intertwined.
