Flagstone Financial Management

Director of Financial Planning & Wealth Advisor

Relationships with my clients are the most rewarding part of my job. It's important for me to understand your background, what has shaped your worldview, and how that translates into your financial goals. That helps me offer better, more meaningful advice. - Daniel Stous, CFP®

Fee-Only financial planner located in Lincoln, NE, serving clients locally and across the country

Daniel Stous is a Lincoln, NE fee-only financial planner. Flagstone Financial Management provides comprehensive and objective financial planning to help clients organize, grow and protect their assets through life’s transitions. As a fee-only, fiduciary, and independent financial advisor, Daniel Stous is never paid a commission of any kind, and has a legal obligation to provide unbiased and trustworthy financial advice.

When my wife and I were newlyweds before I was in the financial planning profession, we got some bad financial advice from a few different financial “advisors”. With little knowledge of how different compensation structures worked, we trusted in people who were really selling a product instead of providing fiduciary advice. Now, I help people avoid some of the same mistakes I made. As a fee-only planner, I work with clients to help them determine whether they’re on a path to meet their goals, and form recommendations if they need to make some adjustments.

I’ve lived in Lincoln for nearly my entire life. I married my wife, Kate, in 2013. We have a toddler daughter who is both a ton of fun and a ton of work. We also have two Balinese cats named Neville and Luna after some of our favorite Harry Potter characters. I love traveling to new destinations, and enjoy saving money on travelling by using points almost as much as I love traveling itself. I’m also passionate about good food, good drink, and good music. I’m also somewhat of a barbecue enthusiast – eating it, and making it. In fact, I’m writing this bio while in a 4-hour line for brisket at Franklin BBQ in Austin, Texas.

Who We Are

We’re a team of financial planning professionals who act in your best interest. We have a passion for educating, advising and inspiring our clients to make sound financial life decisions.

What we do

We help people who want more than just a stock broker or mutual fund picker. Our team makes sure no rock goes unturned, and accounts for your entire financial picture. We help our clients through holistic financial planning, which we call Pathway Planning, while also helping them manage their investments.

Our purpose

Flagstone’s mission is to positively impact as many clients’ lives as possible. We would love to see you realize your dream of opening your own business, paying for your child’s education, becoming debt-free, or funding a charitable goal. As fiduciaries, we make a point to educate you about relevant topics so you can feel more confident in the decisions you make. We strip out complexity by not overwhelming you with the details, and help you tune out the noise of what’s going on around you. Finally, we use award-winning research to drive our advice so you can feel confident about the path we create for you, together as a team. We deeply believe that the clarity, simplicity, and confidence that you experience by working with a fee-only financial professional can improve your quality of life.

Our Passion

One of the best things we experience as financial planners and wealth advisors is that friends become clients, and clients become friends. We would consider it a privilege to get to know you at a deeper level. We’re passionate about hearing how your past experiences with money has shaped your current views on finances and your future financial goals, and it allows us to tailor our financial advice to be more impactful than simply throwing some spreadsheets in front of you without knowing you.

Our Commitment

Real financial planning can be tough to come by. Historically, you could only get real financial planning by meeting high investment minimums. If the majority of your assets were tied up in your company’s 401(k) or real estate, or if you were just starting to invest, you didn’t qualify for financial planning. You might be able to go to an advisor who sold you a product and called themselves a financial planner, but chances are you were paying a commission and weren’t paying for advice. We believe everyone deserves a chance to pay for financial advice, so we don’t have any investment minimums. If you value advice from a professional, you want financial confidence, and you’re ready to pursue your goals, we can help.
