Lynn Dunston is a Member of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors
The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) is the country’s leading professional association of Fee-Only financial advisors - highly trained professionals who are committed to working in the best interests of those they serve.
NAPFA members live by three important values:
- To be the beacon for independent, objective financial advice for individuals and families.
- To be the champion of financial services delivered in the public interest.
- To be the standard bearer for the emerging profession of financial planning
Dunston Financial Group is a privately owned, independent financial planning and wealth management firm. This means that we are not affiliated with any one company, and our business model is not predicated on the sale of proprietary financial products. This model is very different from that of most financial advisors who are expected to sell their company’s proprietary investment and insurance products. As an independent Registered Investment Advisor registered in the state of Colorado, Dunston Financial Group is able to offer the independent advice and solutions that our clients deserve.
Dunston Financial Group is a fee-only financial planning and Registered Investment Advisory (RIA) firm. This means that we never earn sales commissions, kick-backs, referral fees, or sales bonuses that result from the sale of insurance or investment products. As a fee-only Registered Investment Advisor, the Securities and Exchange Commission holds us to a “fiduciary” standard. This means that we are mandated to always place our clients’ best interests above our own. This fiduciary standard stands in contrast to the much lower sales “suitability” standard to which most financial advisors are held. By charging flat, hourly, or percentage-based fees based on a client’s net worth and financial complexity, our advice is never driven by sales commissions, and we are instead paid much like our clients’ CPAs and Attorneys, something which positions us to provide unbiased and objective advice.
Financial services professionals take a variety of approaches to offering financial advice. Some focus on one area of a client’s finances, others focus on two or three. It is our experience at Dunston Financial Group, however, that all aspects of one’s financial life are interwoven to some degree. Effective financial planning, therefore, cannot be done without taking a comprehensive approach that takes into account one’s entire financial picture. Often it is not until one looks at this “big picture” that one’s financial goals and strategies come into focus. Financial planning is more than investing, and it is also more than asset preservation. When choosing a financial planner, it is imperative that one choose a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional who has the training and expertise to provide comprehensive wealth management and financial planning solutions.
