Schupak Financial Advisors
I work with all of my clients on an ongoing basis. This enables us to build a deeper and evolving relationship, resulting in a more customized and what I believe to be a superior experience vs. larger traditional firms.
Michael Schupak is a Jersey City & NYC fee-only financial planner. Schupak Financial Advisors provides holistic, comprehensive and objective financial planning to help clients organize, grow and protect their assets through life’s transitions. As a fee-only, fiduciary, and independent financial advisor, Michael Schupak is never paid a commission of any kind, and has a legal obligation to provide unbiased and trustworthy financial advice.
Financial planning and investing can be both intimidating and overwhelming. I want to be there to help you understand your financial picture, plan for the future and prevent costly mistakes that you may regret down the road.
I’m patient, detail oriented and enjoy teaching others. Being left brain dominant, I have a love for probability and numbers. I enjoy reading the latest white papers on investing and appreciate the variety that comes with each financial planning engagement.
Outside of work, I love to spend time with my wife. We are avid skiers and she has spread her travel bug to me over time. I strive to always eat healthy but burgers and pizza occasionally get in the way. I’m a big NY Jets fan, but otherwise, a casual sports fan. I’m always up for a game of chess, basketball or a round of golf.
Professional Background - I worked in the corporate world at both start-up and fortune 500 companies for over 10 years in: financial planning & analysis, tax, insurance, accounting, debt financing and treasury. Ultimately, I decided to pursue my passion, financial planning, and pivot from helping corporations plan and improve their finances to serving individuals and families. I’ve earned a Certificate of Financial Planning from Boston University, completed the Financial Planning Association Residency Program and I am a Certified Financial PlannerTM professional.
Michael Schupak is a Member of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors
The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) is a leading professional association of Fee-Only financial advisors - highly trained professionals who are committed to working in the best interests of those they serve.
NAPFA members live by three important values:
- To be the beacon for independent, objective financial advice for individuals and families.
- To be the champion of financial services delivered in the public interest.
- To be the standard bearer for the emerging profession of financial planning
Our Investing philosophy is centered around global diversification with low fee and low turnover holdings. Our portfolios are grounded on the research and published works from well-known and Nobel Prize winning scholars such as:David Booth, Eugene Fama (Nobel Prize Winner of Economics), Robert Shiller (Nobel Prize Winner of Economics) and Mebane Faber.
Financial Planning - We believe a “bottoms up” cash flow approach is the cornerstone to completing a robust comprehensive financial plan. In our opinion, these inputs provide the most accurate projections for your financial future. In general, we prefer term life insurance and stay clear of annuities. Debt can be a great tool to increase your wealth, but can also be crippling, so it should be taken on cautiously. We expect financial plans to change over time, sometimes for better and other times for worse. However, we believe by working with you along the way, we can anticipate potential challenges and proactively, not reactively, positively impact your future.
Fees - We work with all of our clients on an ongoing basis. Fees are charged on a tiered Assets Under Management (AUM) schedule ranging from 0.95% - 0.45%. For clients who we manage less than $300K for, we bill a $1K up front and a monthly fee typically between $200 - $400. The monthly fee declines (and eventually goes away) as one's managed investments approach $300K.
