Paul Cordero is a San Rafael, CA fee-only financial planner. Attune Financial Planning provides comprehensive and objective financial planning and investment management to help clients organize, grow and protect their assets through life’s transitions. As a fee-only, fiduciary, and independent financial advisor, Paul Cordero is never paid a commission of any kind, and has a legal obligation to provide unbiased and trustworthy financial advice.

Hi, I’m Paul Cordero.  I am the founder of Attune Financial Planning.  My firm specializes in providing comprehensive financial planning, tax planning, and tax preparation services to affluent and high net-worth career professionals and their families.

Why Am I a Financial Planner?

I established my own firm because I value the independence and the freedom to do what is best for you and without any conflict of interests. I truly care about you and I am passionate about guiding you towards the life you want for yourself and your family.

I started my career in Corporate Finance where I worked for over 15 years.  I became interested in Financial Planning after my son was born.   My wife and I were searching for someone to help us develop and implement our financial plan.  What we found instead were primarily financial salespeople who were more interested in selling us financial products.  Not knowing where to turn to, I decided to learn about financial planning on my own.  I took classes at Golden Gate University where I eventually received a Graduate Certificate in Financial Planning.

Surprisingly, I discovered a new career where I could truly help everyday working people who have very real concerns about how to protect their family, buy a home, save for retirement and fund their children’s college education.

In 2012, after successfully passing the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) exam and the Series 65 State Registered Investment Advisor exam, I established my own independent financial planning practice.

Education

I have a Master’s of Science degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology both from San Francisco State University.  I received an advanced Graduate Certificate in Financial Planning from Golden Gate University.  In addition, I passed the three-part Special Enrollment Examination to become an Enrolled Agent (EA).  As an EA, I am authorized to prepare tax returns for my clients and to represent them before the IRS.

Family & Personal Life

I live in the Terra Linda area of San Rafael, California with my wife Diane.  Our son Ryan is attending college at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.  In my spare time I enjoy gathering with family and friends, tending our garden, going on family vacations, watching movies, reading, hiking, and running.

In addition to spending time with my family, I enjoy helping out in my local community. I am currently on the Board of Directors of the San Francisco Financial Planning Association where I serve as the Treasurer.

I also believe in supporting life saving charitable causes.  I donate a percentage of my firm's gross income to the following organizations:

Feeding America.  The Feeding America network is the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization, working to connect people with food and end hunger. Donors, staff, and volunteers all play an important role in their efforts to end hunger in the United States.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.  Their mission is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment.  No child is denied treatment based on race, religion or family's ability to pay.

Paul Cordero is a Member of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors

The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) is a leading professional association of Fee-Only financial advisors - highly trained professionals who are committed to working in the best interests of those they serve.

NAPFA members live by three important values:

  • To be the beacon for independent, objective financial advice for individuals and families.
  • To be the champion of financial services delivered in the public interest.
  • To be the standard bearer for the emerging profession of financial planning.

Like most people, you worry that your finances are not in harmony with your life goals.  You are looking for objective advice but find yourself

  • Overwhelmed with information
  • Frustrated by conflicting advice

I am a Fee-Only financial planner based in Novato, California and I serve clients throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

My mission is to bring harmony into your financial life in a comprehensive and holistic manner through a process called Financial Life Planning.

What is Financial Life Planning®?

Financial Life Planning is a holistic process that puts your interests first and focuses on increasing your sense of financial well-being and life satisfaction.

Initially, this process will help you to clarify your values, priorities, circumstances, and aspirations; and then guide you in defining and designing your unique version of the “rich life.”  In addition, Financial Life Planning will increase your understanding of the habits and attitudes that will facilitate your financial and life goals and support successful life transitions.

Why Choose Me to Be Your Financial Life Planner?

Because of the unpredictability of life and the complexity of financial markets, it is important to work with a Financial Planner who will help you to achieve your financial and life goals.  And, it is essential to select a Planner who will take the time to truly get to know you and to understand your concerns and your dreams.

As your Financial Life Planner, I have joined the ranks of a small but increasing cadre of life-centered financial planning professionals who are leaders in the trend of integrating financial planning and life planning.  We are dedicated to understanding each client’s unique set of values, priorities, challenges, and opportunities in order to make the most appropriate financial recommendations.

Therefore, in addition to traditional discussions of assets and net worth, we are asking our clients, “What will bring meaning and purpose to your financial life?”

If you are among those individuals disillusioned with the results of “using your life to make money,” you will find the opposite mind set of “using your money to make a life” to be both liberating and compelling.
