Paul Winter is a Salt Lake City, UT fee-only financial planner. Five Seasons Financial Planning provides comprehensive and objective financial planning and portfolio management to help clients organize, grow and protect their assets through life’s transitions. As a fee-only, fiduciary, and independent financial advisor, Paul Winter is never paid a commission of any kind, and has a legal obligation to provide unbiased and trustworthy financial advice.
Paul Winter stands on a solid foundation of experience. A tenured investment professional, Paul has worked in the financial industry for more than twenty years. For eleven of those years, he traded a variety of Money Market and Fixed Income securities for global financial services firms on Wall Street. After that, Paul decided to broaden his knowledge base by trading stock-index futures and investing in individual stocks using proprietary screens and price targets. In 2004 Paul established Five Seasons Financial Planning, a registered investment advisory firm in the state of Utah, to offer his investment expertise to clients and to provide them with professional, Fee-Only financial planning and investment management services.
Paul is a CFA charterholder and a CFP® professional, and has two business degrees that also aid him in serving clients. He graduated from Columbia University in New York City with an MBA, where his majors were Money and Financial Markets and Finance. While attending Columbia University, an Ivy League institution whose finance program is perennially ranked in the top 3 in the country, Paul was named a Dean’s Scholar and was granted membership in the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society. He also graduated with Great Distinction and received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University in Montreal, where he majored in Accounting and Management Information Systems.
Paul is a member of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), the nation's leading organization of Fee-Only comprehensive financial planners. Members of NAPFA are dedicated to providing consumers with holistic and professional financial advice, free from the conflicts of interest that arise with the sale of financial products.
Paul has been quoted on a variety of financial planning and investment topics in the local and national print media, including the Wall Street Journal, SmartMoney, Business Week, Kiplinger's, Newsweek, the Salt Lake Tribune, the Deseret Morning News, and Financial Planning and Financial Advisor magazines.
Paul writes all of the posts for the Articles on Wealth Management Topics blog, with topics ranging from portfolio management to tax planning and retirement funding. He has also written articles on retirement plans for the Wasatch Business Connections magazine.
In addition, he has been interviewed several times on Fox 13 News and has been featured on the Dow Jones Newswire. He has also appeared as a guest expert on retirement planning for KUER FM 90's "Your Personal Economy" series. (Please click on Paul on TV and Radio to access some of these recordings).
An avid skier for more than 50 years, Paul plays squash regularly to stay fit and has become hooked on fly-fishing. He can also be seen mountain biking and hiking the Wasatch and Uinta mountains with his wife Beth, daughter Ashley, and their bagel hound, Danica.

Paul Winter founded Five Seasons Financial Planning, a Fee-Only wealth management firm specializing in investments, to provide you with an independent, professional alternative to insurance agents, commissioned planners, and traditional brokers.
Objective. Professional. Financial Advice. – Five Seasons is different from most other investment advisory firms in that it does not accept commissions or payments from mutual fund firms, broker/dealers, insurance companies, or any other third party. 100% of the firm’s revenue is derived from fees paid by clients. As a pure Fee-Only firm, there are no outside influences affecting the guidance provided to clients. Because product sales are not a part of the firm’s business model, clients receive the highest level of objective, professional financial advice available. If you’ve been reading the national financial publications, you’ve most likely read about the benefits of Fee-Only financial advice.
Personalized Approach – At Five Seasons Financial Planning, there are no canned investment portfolios, no boilerplate financial plans. Because your financial circumstances are unique, the services you receive will be customized to you. The portfolio management services and financial advice you’ll receive are tailored specifically to you, your needs and your goals. While Five Seasons utilizes some of the best technology available to streamline the planning process and ensure accuracy, professional guidance and interpretation of the numbers is a large part of The Five Seasons Difference. You will never feel like “just another account” at Five Seasons.
