Fee-Only financial planner, CPA, CFP®, CFA®, lower fees on larger portfolios, serving a select group of clients mostly in Kansas City

Sandi Weaver is a Kansas City fee-only financial planner serving clients locally and across the country. Weaver Financial provides comprehensive financial planning consisting of retirement planning, investment analysis & management, tax strategies, estate planning, and more. Weaver Financial has always followed the fiduciary standard, has never been paid a commission, and has always worked only for the client on an independent basis - not aligned with a broker, insurance company, or bank. Weaver Financial uses Schwab Institutional as custodian to hold most, not all, of clients' accounts.
Hi! I’m Sandi Weaver, I’m a Certified Financial Planner™ professional and an active member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA). I’ve worked on our Public Awareness Committee in the local FPA chapter since 2009. I write financial planning columns for The Kansas City Star newspaper and online paper. I appear on KCUR’s Up-To-Date public radio show to talk money with host Steve Kraske!
I earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, which is the pinnacle of designations in the investment field. CFAs master complex studies in portfolio management, quantitative analysis, businesses, stocks, bonds, and economics. I’m a member of the CFA Institute of course. Before starting my own financial planning firm, I cut my teeth working with an investment management firm serving high net worth individuals.
The Missouri Society of CPAs is an excellent resource for me. I'm an active member of our Wealth Management Committee, and organize our annual wealth management conference for the Society. It’s a wonderful way to "stack the deck” with national experts on areas I want to learn more about.
I graduated magna cum laude from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
I’ve provided expert witness testimony on financial assets in court cases a few times, but those are experiences for the very brave!
My church has an Endowment Committee. I evaluate and monitor the investments in the endowment for the committee. (We use SUSTAINABLE INVESTMENTS for 100% of this portfolio, whereas clients usually opt for 0%, 30%, or 50%.) I give estate planning presentations to our young couples to setup simple estate plans themselves, and to our middle-agers and seniors with more complicated estate plans. Of course there’s a 2-minute mention about giving to church!
In 1993 I started Financial Security Advisors, a fee-only (no commission) financial planning and investment management firm. I sold my firm in Sep. 2015, and continued with Petrovic Weaver Financial Services as senior advisor until Feb 2019. Now under Weaver Financial, I’m back full circle to what I love, working with others one-on-one to help them make smart financial decisions. Weaver Financial is a boutique firm, working with a limited number of clients.

Sandi Weaver is a Member of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors

The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) is a leading professional association of Fee-Only financial advisors - highly trained professionals who are committed to working in the best interests of those they serve.
NAPFA members live by three important values:
- To be the beacon for independent, objective financial advice for individuals and families.
- To be the champion of financial services delivered in the public interest.
- To be the standard bearer for the emerging profession of financial planning.
Weaver Financial serves high net worth clients with larger portfolios. Clients get on-going investment management usually composed of a core group of investments, mostly ETFs and mutual funds, mostly institutional classes. Sometimes older investments are retained and monitored. Reports for our meetings cover expenses paid, performance, current holdings, current tax status at our meetings.
I review our clients’ tax returns annually, recommend strategies that could benefit them, and work with their CPAs to possibly take advantage of additional deductions or deferrals. As a CPA, I hate to miss a smart strategy we could use.
Clients always want to know how much they can spend in retirement, on special purchases and more. Our meetings with retirement projections are detailed and explore many options in our clients’ lives. Retirement scenarios are used continually, not just once. We analyze how to maximize social security.
I work on our clients’ estate planning, college planning, employee benefits, cashflow, insurance, interfacing with their advisers as directed.
SUSTAINABLE INVESTING, a personal favorite, is incorporated in the portfolios of a third of the clients. We’ve long specialized in these, and use research to quantify the impact on performance, if any, so clients can better make their decisions on how much to invest with this approach.
I tend to work more with engineers, accountants, “detailed” types, and women decision-makers. Most of our clients are in their 50’s or older, planning for retirement or already retired, both couples and singles. I purposely work for a smaller set of clients than the typical firm. We schedule two in depth meetings each year, more if needed. We work for clients throughout the year, responding to questions and investment market changes.
