Shawn Tydlaska is a Burlingame and San Francisco Bay area fee-only financial planner, serving clients locally and across the country. Ballast Point Financial Planning provides comprehensive financial planning, tax advice and preparation, and investment management to help young professionals organize, grow and protect their assets through life’s transitions. As a fee-only, fiduciary, and independent financial advisor, Shawn Tydlaska is never paid a commission of any kind, and has a legal obligation to provide unbiased and trustworthy financial advice.

Updated March 23, 2023 - Shawn Tydlaska is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and holds an MBA from the University of Michigan - Ross School of Business. Shawn also holds a BA in Economics and a Minor in Education from UCLA.

After graduating from UCLA, Shawn was unprepared to manage his own personal financial life. Credit scores, 401(k)s, and budgeting were all foreign concepts and he felt overwhelmed. When he started to learn how to best manage his own finances, he was immediately hooked. He knew he found his professional calling to help others achieve the same sense of empowerment he felt when he took control over his finances. Shawn launched Ballast Point Financial Planning in 2016 to be your partner in achieving your financial goals and dreams.

Shawn is an avid runner and has finished the Boston Marathon 6 times. He loves camping with his wife, their son, and their beloved cavapoo named Coop.

NAPFA members live by three important values:

  • To be the beacon for independent, objective financial advice for individuals and families.
  • To be the champion of financial services delivered in the public interest.
  • To be the standard bearer for the emerging profession of financial planning.

No matter your level of wealth, I believe that everyone should have access to qualified independent financial advice. From a free initial consultation with ongoing financial literacy content to a comprehensive financial plan, we will partner together to empower you with the financial tools you need to take control over and improve your finances.

What I offer:  COMPREHENSIVE FINANCIAL PLANNING

We will follow a three-step process to create a comprehensive financial plan that aligns your financial goals with your values.

1.     First, we will understand what money means to you and how it fits into your life. Then we will organize your finances so you have a clear picture of where you currently stand right now.

2.     Next, we will talk about your financial goals. What are your short, medium, and long-term goals? What are your dreams? We will work together to clarify your goals so that they are crystal clear and tangible.

3.     Finally, we will create actionable steps to get you on a path towards financial independence.

This process is not something we do once and set aside on the bookshelf. Like physical fitness, your financial fitness needs constant attention throughout your career and beyond. But don’t worry, I will be there every step of the way to guide you and to make sure your money is working hard!
