Walkner Condon Financial Advisors

U.S. Expat Financial Advisor, Director of International Financial Planning

Being trained as an attorney, you know, I think it helps me a lot as an expat financial advisor because I spend a lot of time researching rules, regulations, and laws – US laws, which are complicated enough to take up most of your time, but also residence country rules for clients in many different countries. So, researching and digging into legal documents, tax treaties and what not, very critical to what we do. - Stan Farmer, CFP®, J.D.

We help our U.S. expatriate clients achieve confidence and clarity about what they will be able to accomplish in the future.

Stan Farmer is financial advisor helping U.S. expatriate clients achieve confidence and clarity about what they will be able to accomplish in the future.  Walkner Condon’s international team possesses practical expat experience, supported by refined technical knowledge and bolstered by advanced degrees and designations. While it is one thing to know about all the complexities that come with expatriate status, it is quite another to have actually lived and worked through the myriad challenges of being a cross-border citizen. Our team has both, and they are ready to put that expertise to work for you, whether you have lived abroad for years, or you are beginning to contemplate the move.

A Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®), Stan Farmer lives in Middleton, the town he and his wife and three children have called home for the past nine years. He grew up in Columbia, Missouri, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, but has lived and worked all over the world, from Minneapolis to Luanda (Angola), Dubai and Lisbon. He began his career as an attorney and first became a financial advisor in 2004, joining the Minneapolis office of Merrill Lynch.

After returning to the U.S., Stan joined Thun Financial in 2014, where he began to focus his advisory practice on providing financial planning and investment advice to U.S. expat clients all over the world. He has authored numerous articles and provided educational webinars on a variety of financial planning topics that have included cross-border estate planning, financial planning for mixed nationality couples, dividing retirement assets when divorcing abroad, cross-border philanthropy, and expatriation.

Stan is a graduate of Northwestern University, where he majored in economics. He also achieved a masters degree in government administration (MGA) from the University of Pennsylvania and law degree (JD) from the University of Iowa. He is fluent in English and Portuguese.

Stan enjoys taking care of his 100+ pets (African cichlids) and he is completely obsessed with cycling the many paved, gravel and dirt trails that run throughout Wisconsin when the weather permits, and riding inside with Zwift and his stationary trainer when it doesn’t.
